Surveillance is a series of exhibits and discussion events featuring interdisciplinary artists who are using camera, screen, data, and drone to question corporate and state business. The shows attempt to create a conversation around ongoing revelations about the reach of the government surveillance practices; increasing public awareness about corporate data mining; and evolving practices for how surveillance tools disclose social geography and production systems, and how they “see” Internet users as types vs. individuals. Surveillance.01 was held at the Made in NY Media Center in NYC in April 2014, and Surveillance.02 was shown at the East Wing in Dubai in March-April 2015.

The premiere exhibition at the Red October, Moscow in 2010 presented 22 artists working in still photography, multimedia and video. The show featured multi-channel video installations, web-based projects, and interactive documentary films, and included critically acclaimed works by Tim Hetherington, Brenda Ann Kenneally, Alex Majoli, and Yuri Kozyrev, as well as pieces produced by Magnum In Motion and the New York Times’ multimedia department. The concept was a collaboration of artists, architects and designers offering a unique exhibition experience that shows new documentary techniques at a time when they are still being forged. 

The show was projected later that year on the facade of the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, DC. The show featured an eclectic selection of work by 9 artists: Jan Banning’s portraits of mid-level bureaucrats in eight different countries; Benjamin Lowy’s moving landscapes of torn, unstable places around the globe; issues of water scarcity by Balazs Gardi; blindness by Stefano de Luigi; interrogations in the Ukraine by Donald Weber; Thomas Dworzak’s images of found Taliban portraits; Tim Hetherington’s enigmatic visions of sleeping soldiers on Afghanistan’s front line; the disastrous BP oil spill by Christopher Morris; and finally the monumental work on separation walls in conflict challenged parts of the world by Kai Wiedenhoefer.

The exhibition at the Red October, Moscow, held in 2012 showcased 10 projects as video projections and several web documentaries. The projects created by photographers, journalists, editors and multimedia producers tell unique stories and at the same time address universal issues. From When the Floods Came by Gideon Mendel showing us some of the consequences of global warming to Superman by Zackary Canepari and Drea Cooper which explores the world of a man living the life of a superhero movie character to The Home Front by Marcus Yam and the New York Times, a heartbreaking feature on a single parent who is forced to part from his two infant sons, the show focused on the wonder of the visual in the world of storytelling.

Since its creation in 2007 the Photoquai photography biennial held by Musei Quai Branly in Paris, France, has been highlighting non-Western photography artists whose work remains either unknown in France or rarely seen in Europe, to encourage the exchange of ideas and an interchange of perspectives of the world. In 2013, Photoquai was art directed by Frank Kalero, and Liza Faktor was one of the curators. In 2013 over two months exhibition was attended by 527 582 visitors. In 2015 Kalero and Faktor are contributing to the 5th edition of Photoquai.
